What Is This Calculator?
A billable hours calculator determines your utilization rate — the percentage of work hours that are directly billable to clients. Most freelancers and consultants only bill 60-70% of their total work hours; the rest goes to admin, marketing, and business development.
How to Calculate
To calculate billable utilization: 1) Track total hours worked. 2) Track hours directly billed to clients. 3) Divide billable by total. 4) Multiply by 100. Also calculates revenue: Billable Hours × Rate. Formula: Utilization = Billable / Total × 100.
Examples
Example: You work 40 hours but only 28 are billable at $75/hour. Utilization = 28/40 × 100 = 70%. Revenue = 28 × $75 = $2,100.
